The Rapids Peewee A team came through in a must-win game,
defeating the St. Catharines Brock Badgers 2-1 to advance to next month’s
provincial championship weekend. This
was their sixth game against the Badgers this season, with five of them now
having been decided by one goal. After
finishing sixth during the regular season, the team has peaked at the right
time. Besides heading to provincials,
they will also play Ancaster the week of March 18th for the South
Central division final, with the winner advancing to the Lower Lakes playoff
weekend.

After
losing their first game on Friday, the Peewee A Rapids won five straight games
to take the gold medal at the Kitchener Fallfest tournament this weekend. The girls did so in dominant fashion,
outscoring opponents 13-1 over their final five games, including a shutout win
over Stoney Creek in the semifinals, 3-0, followed by another shutout, 2-0,
over Kitchener in the gold-medal contest.
Both the defense and forwards did an excellent job of shutting down
opponents, and both goalies had outstanding weekends. An excellent weekend for the Rapids Peewee A,
one that will hopefully carry back over into the regular season.

The Rapids Peewee A girls took home a silver medal at this weekend's Ancaster Fall Shootout tournament, falling 3-2 to North Halton in the championship game. After finishing second in their pool, the girls reached the final by killing off a late penalty to hold on and beat previously unbeaten Ancaster 2-1 in an exciting semi-final. It was a good showing for the girls in their first tournament of the season, and they will hopefully build on their success next weekend in St. Catharines.
