CONGRATS TO OUR U13BB FOR WINNING SILVER IN PITTSBURGH THIS PAST WEEKEND.
Our U13BB participated in the The Burgh Thanksgiving Girls Fest in Pittsburgh, Pa this past weekend and went to see Sydney Crosby and Co. beat the Calgary Flames on Saturday Night and then came home as Silver Medal Winners on Sunday!
They opened the tournament with a 5-4 win against the Rochester Jr. Americans.
The Rapids fell behind 2-0 after the 1st and 4-2 entering the 3rd period; the girls never gave up and battled back to tie the game at 4 that sent the game to a shootout. It came down to the last shooter and the Rapids were able to pull out the win in exciting fashion!
Game #2 had the Rapids facing off against the Cincinnati Jr. Cyclones in fast paced back and forth affair. The Rapids built a 3-1 lead and withstood a late push from the Cyclones to hold on for a 3-2 win.
The final game of round robin was against the Dallas Stars Elite. Feeling the affects of 2 hard fought physical games the Rapids couldn't keep pace with the Stars and suffered their first loss of the tournament 5-2.
In the semi-final it was a rematch with Dallas. The girls were fired up and raced out to an early and never looked back. The girls continued to pressure the Stars and withstood the physical play to be rewarded with a 5-3 win and book their spot in the Championship game against Cincinnati.
The final was an intense battle with the Cyclones looking for revenge. The game was tied at 1 entering the 3rd period and the Rapids took a 2-1 lead early in the period. Cincinnati poured on the pressure and were able to breakthrough with 3 goals in the late stages. The Rapids pulled the goalie for one last chance but the Cyclones clinched it with an empty netter to close out the scoring for a 5-2 win.
It was an incredible weekend for the girls! Your Coaches, Families and the rest of Niagara Rapids Association are extremely proud of winning the Silver Medal and how you represented the Organization!
